Clemence Poesy for Jalouse

The namesake for this blog is featured on the cover and an editorial ("Strip") of the November issue of French fashion magazine Jalouse. And jalouse, I certainly am... ever gorgeous, ever so adorably French.

Makeup Trickery: K.I.S.S.

We all know what KISS stands for. Keep. It. Simple. (Stupid.) A quick flourish is all it takes to elevate a simple makeup look to "wow" in an instant. Here are just some examples.

1. Luminous skin. Nars Orgasm Illuminator, a lovely peachy-pinky-shimmering concoction, is one of my all-time favourite makeup products. Just wear alone, underneath foundation or mixed with foundation or tinted moisturiser for a warm, healthy glow to rival Blake Lively's beautiful complexion.

2. Curled eyelashes. Using an eyelash curler before you apply mascara will give you a gorgeous wide-eyed look. I love Utowa Eyelash Curler, which curls the lashes "up", rather than "around", for a more natural effect, aka Miss Bosworth.

3. Bold eyebrows. Camilla Belle is the undisputed Queen of Brows. See how they frame her face so beautifully? Nars Eyeshadows in Bali (for brunettes) or Blondie (for blondes) are perfect for achieving a full, flawless shape.

4. Peachy cheeks. When we apply foundation, concealer and/or powder, we take away all of the natural rosiness of of our complexions. Peachy-toned blush restores freshness and vitality. I love Chanel Joues Contraste in Espiegle.

5. Wear a bright lip. A glossy pop of colour on the lips can perk you up any day of the week, at any time. To mimic Jess Hart's lovely watermelon shade, go with Chantecaille Lip Chic in Zinnia - my summer staple.

Beauty advice from Tom Ford

Tom Ford recently launched his beauty collection in the US. Needless to say, it looks divine. I already have my eye on his Lip Colour in Pink Dusk and the Shade and Illuminate palette, not to mention the mahogany-handled brushes, nude lipgloss, eyeshadow palettes, rouge noir-esque nail polish, "traceless" foundation and translucent pressed powder.

Here are some of his beauty tips:

“You can’t put this makeup on in the subway or in the car ever. Because if you paint your mouth on slightly crookedly, you no longer have a straight mouth, you have a crooked mouth. Why would you do that?”

“The only thing making you have bags is the light hitting the high points of the skin. If there is translucent powder under your eyes and you use a little stick foundation, and then the powder in moderation, the shadows are gone.”

“If a girl needs a touch-up, she should go to the powder room… [but] if you have a gorgeous hand and gorgeous mannerisms and agorgeous compact . . . there’s a very well known beauty, I can’t say her name, but I used to see her a bit for dinner, she’d lay out a compact, a lip brush, a lipstick, and it was like part of the knife and fork. After each course, out came the compact and the lipstick, and somehow she pulled it off, because it was so much her thing.”

“You can take a little black dress and put on twenties makeup, thirties makeup, or seventies makeup, and that dress becomes totally different.”

“Women should do the same as I did when starting my brand: What colors do I always like? What was my favorite period of makeup? What am I comfortable in? What time in my life did I think I looked my most amazing? What was I wearing? And from just thinking about those things, you can start to put together who you are. Then stick with it. It doesn’t mean your shoulder or heel shouldn’t change a little, but it gives you a base.”

And if you haven't seen Mr Ford's directorial debut, A Single Man, this dancing scene between Julianne Moore and a bespectacled Colin Firth is wonderful.
